Every Lasik eye surgery starts with the creation of a corneal flap. Doctors have traditionally performed this step of the surgery using a microkeratome blade obtaining what were considered good results.

Intralase replaces the surgical blade for a computer-guided laser, greatly increasing the accuracy of the first step in a LASIK procedure. This gives the surgeon the ability to establish more precise dimensions of the corneal flap, which is critical to a successful Lasik outcome.
